Core Design became the evil ones and the destroyers of the franchise.įrom here.Because Crystal Dynamics were "the new ones" started a smear campaign against Core Design, the TRAOD project and even the classic games, pointing (even inventing) its flaws and mistakes and magnifying them.Crystal started his own project, adapting the Prince of Persia's game core, rebooted part of the argument and Lara Croft's history, and started Tomb Raider Legend. Core Design gave all the material (game core, plots, prototypes.) of the project to Crystal, but they just cancelled it all. Eidos Interactive decided to withdraw the franchise from Core Design and gave it to Crystal Dynamics.Eidos deflected all the critics pointing to Core Design as scapegoat. The game was unfinished, there were a lot of bugs, and the fans were angry.TOMB RAIDER ANGEL OF DARKNESS (the simplified merge of the project Next Generation) IS LAUNCHED.Still Eidos Interactive forced its launch in a complete unfinished and unstable state. All those cuts weren't enough to complete the game on the deadline. They merged the three games into one, deleted half of the plot, deleted locations and characters, abandoned game mechanics (like the RPG system, Kurtis' powers and his "mana" mechanic, and more). So they decided to cut and shorten the project, more and more. Then Core Design asked Eidos to delay the launch so they can complete the first game, but they refused. The team started to do more minor mistakes, with summed with the delay, time became a problem. Please note the quality of this soundtrack, first one using a real orchestra in all Tomb Raider history. In fact, it's the only one thing in the project that was fully developed. One of the first things to be completed was the soundtrack, by Peter Conelly.Part of the team was busy creating renders to Eidos publicity (like that interview to Lara Croft) instead of fully work on the project (another big mistake).

They pretended to create a new game core because the classic one was exhausted.
